More progress...

Just some more progress pics for you. Here's what the duster looked like a week ago:

Here it is now:

Wooo! Just look at that baby! It's flying off the needles!

Just kidding. The skirt is killing me. Sooooo boring. I'm a little more than half way done. I hope to bust out another 8 row repeat tonight...but that's pushing it.

In other news...I gave my notice at work today. *Phew*

Now I just have to find another job.

Roadtrip...

This past Friday I was off. I had plans to do some stuff around the apartment, but Tracey asked if I wanted to help her out. She and Kevin had to drive back up to Morro Bay to get Kevin's car.

Impromptu road trip? Definitely. That means knitting time.

The dash of a  Honda CRV does well as a tripod:

We left around 1pm and got up there around...5pm, I think. I knit the whole time. We picked up Kevin's car, went to dinner and got back on the road in about an hour.

We ate here:

Lolos

That name makes me think of an episode of Scrubs. Does anyone remember the when Elliot and Heather Graham's character schooled Turk on that rap song?  I don't really remember the details that well but it was funny that these two white girls were explaining a rap song to Turk. Anyway.

I drove the whole way back, so no knitting for me then, but it was starting to get dark anyway. I am still hoping to finish the skirt portion in the next few days and start picking up stitches for the collar by the end of the week.

Happy Valentine's Day...

First off, thanks to anyone who reads this blog. Even though I may have never met you, you'll never know how much I enjoy opening my email and seeing all the comments.

How fitting is it that one of the people (persons?) that I love most is coming back into my life on this day? Well, she never left, but she's closer geographically now.

Tracey is moving back to So Cal! Yay for me!

Old picture.

Also, I love that I get to see my Dad more often now that I, too, have moved back. Seems that moving away has made me appreciate him more. Funny how that works. he finally came out to see Randy and I's new apartment this past weekend.

How cute is he?

And not to be left out, is this cutie:

Happy Valentines Day to you all!

Duster progress...

Now for some knitting content...

The progress on the Tilted Duster so far:

Duster_213

I'm getting more excited about this the further along I get, of course. I love that aspect of knitting. Once it all starts coming together and you can almost see the finished product and you start thinking, "I made that." That's one of the most rewarding things.

I'm a few more inches into the skirt portion now. Maybe a week or so till I finish the skirt, then onto the collar. Not really looking forward to that part, I've realized I don't like picking up stitches. Or setting in sleeves...which is what is after the collar. But, I've got this craving for socks which I won't let myself cast on for till after I finish this thing. I have bunch of sock patterns in mind, but I think I may finally make some Monkeys. All because of Sarah's.  Of course.

I got the latest Interweave Knits in the mail the other day and I don't love anything in there. I like a few things, but for now, no love. Which is good, because I don't need anything else on my knitting plate right now. A couple of babies are coming into the picture soon so I imagine there will be some hats and whatnot soon. I need a few quick little projects after these past couple of sweaters.

I still want to make the peapod set for someone...but I'm afraid it seems more suitable for girls and they're all boys coming up.

How cute is that? Although, I must admit I am swayed by the striped pants and the look on that kids face. Cracks me up.

Late Christmas presents for friends and me...

Yep, a Christmas present in February.

Before I left San Francisco I told my friend, Ianthe, that she had another small Christmas present coming. I got the idea for the present after I had already started packing, so unfortunately I knew she wouldn't get it till after we moved. All my crafty goodies were packed away. She actually got her Christmas present late last year too, I think. A scarf...that she also got around February. (Mental note: make sure Ianthe gets her Christmas present on time this year.)

Anyhow...I finally got a chance to sit and sew yesterday. I started out with her present and then just kept going. A few hours of sewing got me all this:

On the left there, we have tissue holders.

I think they are adorable. Perfect for keeping your tissues clean in your purse. I don't know about you but my purse gets dirty on the inside. I find crumbs and all sorts of stuff in there...I don't know how they get there. Ok fine...I'm a slob.

Ianthe always keeps tissues with her so I thought of her once I saw a mention of them. I don't remember where I saw the mention first though, either BUST, Ready Made magazine or someones blog. Anyway, what a cute way to make a daily thing a little more interesting. I do fear that I am *this close* to knitting cozies for the Kleenex box in my bathroom though. I hope that doesn't happen.

Once the sewing ball got rolling, I made the bag that I have been wanting from Bend the Rules Sewing, the Simple Tote.

And it is.

The hardest part for me, as usual, is cutting in a straight line.

I love polka dots:

Dots inside and out.  The outside fabric is from a skirt I made a couple of years ago and the inside fabric is from a skirt I bought even longer ago but never wore.

The inside seams could have been a bit cleaner, but whatever, it's on the inside. No ones gonna see em but me.

It's time to walk away...

I have refrained from talking about work on this here blog for numerous reasons. The biggest one is that I have nothing good to say these days and I am try to stick to that old adage of "If you have nothing good to say..." etc.

However, it is time. I need some advice.

I need to find a new job. I would love to find something along the lines of Monday through Friday 9-5pm. I don't mind if it's something as mindless as punching numbers into a computer. In fact, I would prefer it for a bit.

I'm not looking for job offers, just some tips or advice or words of encouragement or something.  I've been doing the same kind of work for quite a few years now and I just can't do retail/customer service anymore.  I'm feeling a bit down about my skills and "employability". (Is that even a word? Let's throw vocabulary onto the list I am feeling down about while we're at it.)

I suppose I could go the temp route again, I did that a few years ago. I'm not opposed to it, but I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas.

Anyone?
