Crafty days...

There is a reason I haven't been posting...I've actually been making things!

Last week I had to do a little sewing...I just couldn't put it off any longer. I bought Amy Karol's Bend the Rules Sewing and I LOVE it. That's right, I used capitals. I'm yelling. It's that good.

Two weeks ago I went to Morro Bay to see Tracey. I'd always heard about this store there called The Cotton Ball. I think it's been listed in different resources as a place to buy yarn...but all I saw there was Lion Brand. That's fine though (Hello?! who just made a scarf out of that stuff in the past couple of weeks?! Anyway.) but the real reason to go is the fabric, because, duh, it's a fabric store. Super, super cute fabric. I walked out with only a few fat quarters though because I had instant amnesia upon seeing the selection. I just couldn't remember one thing that I wanted to sew.  Here's what was made a few days after:

And no, I don't mean a huge mess on my kitchen table. (Have I mentioned how much I am looking forward to moving and possibly having a second bedroom for all this stuff?) What we have there are some coasters, some headbands and a sewing machine cover. That thing had gotten damn dusty since the last time I used it, why not sew something to keep that from happening? (That brown fabric is not from The Cotton Ball, but was actually gifted to me by my dear friend Fan for my birthday last year. She got me quite a few yards, so I've been using it here and there for things. I love the print, and there was plenty to make something large like a dress, but I got all crazy and started cutting into it everywhere a while back. )

Really, I swear there's a machine under there.

I love this apple and pear print:

And I made this, because it's fall, so that means I can't get enough of orange again:

An orange and white polka dotted headband. And one for Tracey out of fabric that she chose:

Just look at the sweet birds.

There's been some knitting, but I still can't show you. It involves this.  For this little guy:

Nathan

My friend Brenda, who I have known since the 3rd grade, gave birth to little Nathan on August 13th. (It was the 13th, right Bren? Crap.) He has such personality already. Can't wait to meet him.

Crappers...

I heard someone say that phrase the other day and it cracked me up.

Anyway.

That's how I am feeling right now. Physically, I feel fine, I actually haven't been sick in a while which is amazing, but I am ticked off that "my" computer is not working properly. It froze last night while I was trying to catch up on blogs. I clicked on some link on Sarah's page and it's been stuck ever since. (Mental note: stop clicking on Sarah's numerous links. This isn't the first time it's happened to you. Grrr.)

I was looking forward to blogging today, catching up on some stuff, but no. My computer doesn't want to play along. So I am using Randy's right now. Maybe I can get him to fix the computer tonight after his hockey game.

What's a post without a picture? Boring, I say. Let's see what Randy has on his computer here....

Another quickie...

Well, I say it was a quickie, and I guess it depends on what "quick" means to you, but it sure was a fast knit. (I almost used the word quick again, but now it's starting to sound weird. You know when you say a word a lot how it starts to sound funny? Quick. Hee hee.)

Anyway, I started this baby last night around 6pm and finished it up this morning.  It's Le Slouch:

A turnaround of less than 24 hours is quick for me, although, there was about 6 hours of knitting or so last night. Randy and I stayed up late, with the intention of watching the meteor shower,  but we got lazy and didn't want to leave the apartment. So I knit and caught up on a lot of Tivo. It's a win-win situation. I got a new hat out of it and we still get to see the shower because it's peak is actually tonight, not last night. Yay!

I never thought I would wear/make a hat like this, but damnit, I can't fight it anymore. It's loose enough to not mat down my hair and keep the wind from letting it get out of control, it's roomy enough where I can pull it down over my ears so they don't get cold, it's super warm and it's more of my stash gone. I am really working on getting rid of what I have.  This is the Debbie Bliss alpaca silk that Debbie and Jerry bought me for Christmas, enough for a hat, scarf and matching mittens hopefully. The hat took two balls, I'm thinking mittens may take 2 or 3 more, leaving plenty for a scarf.

Oh, and it turns out the Le Slouch pattern is perfect for a beanie for Randy. I could cast on maybe 5 stitches less and it would be a perfect fit for his melon head. Yay! The last time I made him a beanie I guessed and it was hilarious. It looked so tight on him. I forget how big his head is.

Here's a close up shot of the quickie project from last weekend:

Mmmmmm....Lion Brand Jiffy yarn goodness. Har har. Someone commented that the yarn looked nice and I feel the need to fess up. I had this idea for a wacky scarf (that didn't work out) about a year ago and I just wanted something inexpensive to try it out on. I love the color and hey, if I get tired of it and never wear it more than 5 times, so be it. I got my $3.99 worth. Or however much it cost.

Yay for quick projects!

Thanks to Lolly...

Quick_scarf

I started a quick project. She doesn't know it, but while catching up on her blog this morning I was inspired by a scarf she made recently. I've been itching to cast on for something new but I knew I should finish up some current projects first. However, if I start and finish a project in the same day...that's not too bad, right? i didn't think so.

I cast on. Size 19 needles and 10 stitches. An hour or so later I am around 4 feet of scarf. I will be done with this baby tonight.  Oh, and it's a stashbuster. Woo hoo!
